How do you feel after winning the Swaranjali 1999 Jewellery designing contest?
On the top of the world !

How would you describe Swaranjali as a contest ?
The contest was very difficult , very competitive and very innovative when it comes to designs.

Having participated and won the De Beers contest as well, how do you feel Swaranjali is different from ...the jewellery designing contest organised by De Beers ?
In the De Beers contest, the numbers of contestants are much less and it is difficult to find a sponsor for your design...
Whereas in Swaranjali the sponsors come and offer themselves.
Also the De Beers contest is restricted to designers and professionals, unlike Swaranjali, where even housewives and school children can participate. So the level of competitiveness is extremely high here.

What kind of designs do you like working on ?
Anything that is new and innovative. I like working on traditional designs as well.

How much time did it take to manufacture your winning design for the Bridal Category ?
It took me 40 days to manufacture the necklace titled Bride’s Pride. It was fabricated by Danabhai Jewellers & Sons, Mumbai.

The uniqueness of this design is that it can be worn as a full bridal necklace (as per the main design) or in different combinations depending on the magnitude of the occasions and still look like a new piece of jewellery each time it is worn.
It has been my sincere effort to bridge both issues by a single multi combination set which could be adorned in all its richness as a bridal wear, or as not too flashy but elegant formal wear, or just as a simple modest casual wear.
Some of the numerous permutations and combinations would include a full bride necklace, various styles of combination necklaces, a hair ornament, a set of earrings, a set of jhumkas, a bracelet, or a combination of them.

So what do you like to do with the cash prize of Rs 1 lakh that you've won ?
(Laughs...)Perhaps, buy the same necklace that I’ve have designed....It costs Rs 2.5 Lakh and weighs
4 .5 kilograms.
